SxS Rental Vs ATV Rental: What to Expect
When you know you want to experience an off-road adventure, the next step is figuring out what vehicle is best suited to your purpose. Upon visiting us at Yellowstone Adventures, you’ll see we offer a wide range of SxS rentals as well as ATV rentals. How do you choose between the two?
For starters, the most important factor to keep in mind is that these vehicles are designed for different purposes. An all-terrain vehicle (ATV) is built to navigate tight spaces, handle quick turns, and hit top speeds. They can be more challenging to ride as you’ll need to maintain your balance to remain in control of the vehicle, which is similar to riding a motorcycle. Another difference is that ATVs are typically designed for single riders. Some models can accommodate a second passenger, but that’s the maximum limit. If you think this is the type of riding experience you’re looking for, check out our ATV rentals page!
Side by side (SxS) rentals, on the other hand, typically accommodate up to 6 passengers depending on the model you choose. You don’t straddle the seat, either. These vehicles are equipped with bucket seats or bench seating, and seatbelts. This is a safer and more comfortable way to explore the great outdoors in Montana. When you operate a SxS, you’ll quickly notice that these machines were designed to conquer heavy-duty tasks. They’re bigger and more powerful, so they’re also better for hauling gear and equipment.
When to Choose a UTV
If you’re still uncertain about when you should choose a UTV, or SxS, here are a few things to ask yourself.
What is the youngest and oldest age participating in your party? Side-by-sides are better equipped for comfort and safety.
How long will you be exploring? Since UTVs don’t require the driver or passenger to straddle the seat, you might want to choose this option if you plan to be out and about for most of the day.
How much equipment are you bringing? SxS vehicles have a lot more room to pack in and pack out items like a cooler, sleeping bag, and camera equipment.
Our Side By Sides
If you’re curious about our side by side rentals in West Yellowstone, you'll be happy to know there’s no shortage of options. The Maverick Sport™ Max side by side can accommodate up to four riders and it’s perfect for tackling rough terrain. No obstacle is too tough for this beast. You’ll also enjoy plenty of storage space for all of your equipment.
If you’ll only be riding with one other person, you might prefer the Maverick™ Trail UTV instead. This rental accommodates two riders and is only 50 inches wide, so you’ll be able to maneuver in and out of tight spaces with ease. Let’s not forget about the exclusive Ergo-Lok design, which provides additional occupant space without expanding the vehicle’s width beyond its 50-inch size.
For families and larger groups, the Defender™ Max is the vehicle for you. This model seats up to 6 passengers without compromising on turning radius. Made for any condition, terrain, or weather, the Defender™ Max is perfect for your outdoor adventure.
No matter which UTV rental you choose, we always make sure you’re prepared for the ride. All customers receive a helmet with their unit. Be sure to wear long pants and supportive footwear when riding. You’ll also want to wear sunglasses or another type of face cover to protect yourself from dust. Regardless of what you wear, you’re going to get dirty out there! It’s best to leave your favorite outfit at home when you’re hitting the trails.
Additionally, your side by side rental will come with a full tank of gas. You’ll need to refill the gas tank before you return it, so you only pay for the fuel that you use. Remember that you’ll be on your own when you head out and start exploring. Bring any essentials that you’ll need with you, such as snacks, drinks, sunscreen, and bug spray. We offer small coolers and storage boxes if you need more space for storing your supplies.
If you’d like more details, don’t hesitate to get in touch with the team at Yellowstone Adventures. We’d be happy to answer any questions you have and help you create an experience that’s tailored to your interests.
