Yellowstone National Park
Snowmobile season in Yellowstone Park begins on December 15 each year, and the trails are closed to snowmobiles on March 15. Guided snowmobile tours are available throughout the season, but make sure to plan ahead and book your slot in advance!
If you would like to ride your snowmobile in Yellowstone Park without a guide, you will need to take some extra steps to secure a reservation. Snowmobile permits are available to a limited number of applicants each year, and permit applications are only available during the month of August. You should also be prepared to pay a $40 recreation fee for each day.
Other Snowmobile Destinations
If you missed the window for riding at Yellowstone this year, there are plenty of other great snowmobile destinations across the United States and Canada that are worth checking out.
Trails across most of the northern states (like North Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin) are open from around December 1 through April 1. Meanwhile, if you head north into Alberta or Saskatchewan, you can expect great conditions from December 1 all the way through April 15.
