Riding a snowmobile is a great way to conquer the winter doldrums – and there’s no better way to experience the snow-covered landscapes of Yellowstone Park! That’s why we are pleased to offer licensed snowmobile tours here at Yellowstone Adventures. If you are planning to tour with us, the following tips will help you prepare for the adventure of a lifetime.
Dressing for the Occasion
First and foremost, make sure you are dressed for the weather! We recommend wearing several warm, removable layers, so you can layer down as needed. After all, you can easily work up a sweat from operating a snowmobile, and you wouldn’t want to overheat!
Your snowmobile riding ensemble should include, at bare minimum:
- A snowmobile helmet with eye protection
- A windproof outer layer
- Thick wool socks (we recommend bringing an extra pair, just in case)
- Warm gloves or mittens
- Waterproof boots
Packing the Essentials
In addition to your warm clothes and safety gear, we recommend having these items packed into the storage compartments of your snowmobile:
- Emergency rations (including at least one full meal)
- Plenty of bottled water
- Waterproof matches
- First-aid supplies (including any medications you might need)
- Emergency flares
Some of these supplies will be provided with your rented snowmobile, but it never hurts to bring your own – especially if you have any special dietary or medical needs.
Learn the Basics
You don’t have to be an experienced snowmobiler to participate in a snowmobile tour – in fact, tours are an excellent way for new riders to get started. However, doing a little homework ahead of time can give you a head start. There are plenty of online resources available for learning to ride a snowmobile, from videos to blog posts, so take advantage of them!
